Solar Innova achieves a new certification of Conformity with the European Standard EN 356:2001, relating to construction glass and safety glass. Testing and classification of resistance to manual attack.

The European standard EN 356 on safety glass includes the requirements for testing and classifying resistance to manual attack. The standard establishes the specifications and test methods for safety glass designed to withstand force, delaying the entry of objects or people into a protected space for a short period of time.

The standard classifies safety glass products into categories of resistance to attack, but does not associate resistance categories with specific applications; the selection of the category is made for each individual case. It is important to note that the EN 356 standard only deals with mechanical resistance to attack, although there are other properties that may be important but are not included in this standard.

The standard distinguishes two classification groups, A and B, for which the tests to be carried out and the classification based on the result of the tests are indicated. In the case of classification A, there are five classification levels: classes P1A, P2A, P3A, P4A and P5A and in the case of classification B, three classification levels: classes P6B, P7B and P8B.

The classification of group A assesses the resistance to hard body impact by means of a ball drop test on the glass, varying the number of impacts to be carried out and the height of the ball drop depending on the classification. For categories P1A, P2A, P3A and P4A the impact body is dropped three times from the same height on each test specimen; for category P5A the procedure is repeated three times on each specimen, giving a total of 9 impacts. After each impact, it is checked whether the impact body has produced a perforation. For each classification category the fall height varies, from 1500 mm in class P1A or 3000 mm in class P2A to 9000 mm in class P5A.
